Maggie is a no-nonsense girl she gives it to ya straight, "okay, if you're interested in learning more about a paying job - after you sober up -" She reached into her pursed, "follow these directions. I run a farm about forty miles north of here. Here's thirty bucks for gas, a decent meal, and a shave." She eyed him directly. "I have two kids, Mr. Harrington. If you work for me, you'll have to leave the bottle behind." Oh Ed when it comes to Maggie's kids, he's such a little pushover, "shoving his hands in his pockets, Ed grumbled. "Oh, all right. We'll go see some horses. It's not like we don't see horses everyday." I loved the conversation Ed and Maggie had about birth control:
...She rummaged in her purse. She let out a sigh of relief and handed him a thin disk. "I'm told this is quite effective," she whispered, with a catch in her throat.
"Thought the man was supposed to be prepared."
"Figured you might never take the initiative, and if you did, lack of kind preparation would be another convenient excuse for you to back off. So," she giggled. "I took things into my own hands."
"So I've noticed."
Maggie is such a saucy little thing you can't help but love her, "Mr. Harrington, by now you should know me well enough to understand that a little buss on your hard head is no attempt at seduction." She snaked a finger down his bicep. "If I were in the seducing mind, you'd know it, and we wouldn't be standing here conversing like we've got all day. Nope, that was just good nursing skills. Didn't your momma ever kiss you on the forehead when you were sick?"
