First off I'm so excited to be part of this tour! I loved Janiera's bookies!! They were well written, unique and different, if you haven't read them I suggest you do. Alright well this was my FIRST interview EVER with an author, so I hope I did good!
First off where did the idea of "Soul Sisters" and "Dark Expectations" come from? It’s strange because I have no idea where I got the idea of twin sisters where one was a vampire and one was a human. All I know is, I wanted to write a story about African-American vampire because there are so few stories out there like that. As much as I love vampire books, I never saw characters that looked like me when I was growing up so I knew right away I had to write the kind of story I wanted to read.
How do you get in the mood to write, I mean do ideas just come to you, or do you have outlines? I very rarely outline anything. I tend to jot down notes about future developments in the story but usually I just let the character’s voices speak to me and let me know where they want to take the story.
What character most stands out to you from these two books? Ani, really because she is such a strong black female character. Does she have her fault, sure. However, she is loyal and will do anything to protect the people she loves at all cost. When I wrote the character she was another side of me so that is another reason why I love her so much.
How do you choose your book covers? Well, I don’t really choose my covers. I work with cover designer Marya Heiman of Strong Image Editing and she worked with me until we were both completely happy with the cover. She had an awesome vision for it and I’m so lucky I found her!
If you could kill off one character from your books who would it be and why?
I already have *cue evil laugh* you’ll have to read Soul Sisters and Dark Expectations to find out who that is.
Random ?s now:
what tv show would you say your life is based on?
My life is not that exciting unfortunately.
Coke or pepsi?
Coke, has that extra burn pepsi just doesn’t have.
Damon or Stefan Salvatore?
I’m not a big fan of this show so I can’t answer that.
Have you ever read a book where you thought "damn i wish i would have thought of that concept?"
No. I love books so much I’m just grateful that there are so many different authors with different ideas floating around.
Thank you so much Heather for having me on your beautiful blog! Will be sharing this great interview with everyone!
