A choice that will lead to his untimely death.

GUEST POST:

The story behind the story

The idea for The Possess Saga had been rolling around in my head for a long time.  Originally I was going to have ghosts in my first book, Mistaken. In that story, Dillan originally never even knew either of the twin brothers  - one haunted her apartment, and one lived in town.
Obviously I changed my mind and while Mistaken is in the same town as The Possess Saga, it ended up being a suspense/thriller about Dillan falling in love with one brother, losing him, and finding out he was mistaken for the twin brother she never knew he had.
Still, after writing Mistaken, I really wanted to write just one ghost story but I couldn’t pull together an idea I liked. One day while I was standing in front of my bedroom mirror the weird random thought came into my head of  “Hey, how freaky would it be if your face and your eyes turned into someone else’s while you were staring into the mirror?”
This is how Brody’s simpler haunts in Possess were born and the ideas for the story just sort of exploded and turned into Possess as it now is. I tend to get ideas when I find myself just asking random what if’s, how’s, and why’s. Sometimes they are just silly thoughts, but sometimes they inspire a whole plotline for a story.
As far as making it a series, I have become so inspired by the characters in Possess that after the first book I knew I had to write more. In Possess there is a certain chapter that ended up inspiring the prequel to it, the novella, The Untimely Death of Brody Walsh. I wanted to explore the last bit of Brody’s (the ghost) life before he was murdered.  What really happened between him and Aggie? Why did he choose to do the things he did? Did he know he was going to die?
After writing Brody’s story, I couldn’t leave Aggie hanging after the events in Possess, so now I am currently sixty percent done with the first draft of that story, Possess My Heart. My creative process with this series reminds me of that book, “If You Give a Mouse a Cookie” because it seems like if I follow one story or one character, it seems to unfold yet another one. Possess went from one little ghost story, into a paranormal series that will span at least 5-6 books with much more than ghosts lurking around each corner.

Demon by Laura DeLuca

Lord Justyn is still a sweetheart as much as he was in 'Phantom' "I've moved a dozen times in my life. I've left friends and family behind more than once, but I don't think I could ever bare to leave you." There was one scene that made me laugh so hard I almost peed myself (doing that a lot lately with some of the books I'm reading not sure if that's a good thing yet haha) (Just going to do dialogue in the scene not what's going on):
"Hey, you friend...he gay? Boy who dress like dat have to be gay."
"No, not at all. He's my boyfriend."
"If he no gay, he must be kinky. You sure he no swinging on both sides of da fence?"
                           "Pretty sure."
"I not understand what nice girl like you do with freaky boy toy like dat."
Ugh Livy that girl needed to be up-slapped a couple of times, she's rude, obnoxious, and I just plain hated her, "This isn't high school, Becca! We aren't going to be friends. And I'm not going to stop until Justyn is mine and you run back to New Jersey with your tail between your legs. Is that clear enough for you deary? Don't try to make nice with me again." Total Biatch! This book is an emotional read (Yea just realized I'm reading a lot more of those lately too, not sure what my mind is trying to tell me) and I enjoyed every second of it!

The 20 Questions Spectacular/GIVEAWAY

Sophie Davis VS Madison Daniel ~
1. Well hello there, Madison. We’ll start off this game of 20 Questions with an easy one: How much of you is in Max, your protagonist in the Ember series?
MD: Probably about 50% me, 50% rockstar superhero. Ember and the character of Max were the first things I created in literary form (back in 2008), and at the time, I was told to “write what you know...” Well, that’s what I did. And all I really KNOW is 80’s movies, comic books, music and the awkwardness of teenage angst. Ha.
SD: I can totally picture you as Nicolas Cage in that 80’s cinematic masterpiece, Valley Girl  Hahaha, I hope our readers look up the cover! (kidding, kidding)
2. How about you, Sophie? How much of yourself goes into the stories you create?
SD: Talia, the main character in Talented has some similarities, both physical and in personality. But I have other characters that have a lot more of me in them, and some with a lot of my closest friends.
3. I know that Max has trouble choosing between the two female characters in Ember; how much of a ladies man were you in high school?
MD: Hmmm...tough question. There were two versions of me back in school, the easy-going, soft-spoken, frontman to my local rock band AND then there was the shy, awkward, hopeless romantic, that just wanted to connect with that “one” special person. Let me put it this way, I looked like the kind of boy your father would hate for you to bring home, but was actually the exact kind of young man your parents always told you to look for. Basically, a ‘good boy’ in a ‘bad boys’ body.
SD: Haha, so a wolf in sheep’s clothing? Nice. Sounds like my kind of guy now, though back in those days I would have gone for the straight-up wolf.
All right, describe your teenage experience in 10 words or less...GO.
SD: Fun, embarrassing, bad decision making, some of my favorite years!
5. Tell us about your first girlfriend.
MD: Enlightening, artistic, challenging and smelled like strawberries. That’s all you’re getting...hehehe.
SD: Strawberries… now why does that sounds familiar? Ohhh, right, that’s Samantha from Ember’s scent…you heard it here first ladies- we found Madison’s kryptonite!
6. Tell us about your LAST relationship. BOOM.
SD: It’s a tragic tale of love, Madison. We first met in college, where we bonded over dirty dishes and pickles – we worked at a sandwich place. I fell in love with his long hair and angry attitude, not sure what he saw in me, but I did wait tables in some very short shorts. While it was obvious we both pined for the other, we never professed our love. I left our small college town for D.C., while he headed south to warmer weather – Miami to be exact. He married a Brazilian supermodel. I got a Master’s degree. He divorced the Brazilian supermodel. I got a law degree. And then if finally seemed like the right time to get together. Unfortunately, our mutual attraction only existed in theory. In reality, we had nothing in common. So after a year of flying back and forth between DC and Miami, we parted ways. Since then, only one boy sleeps in my bed, my Benji look-alike, Humphrey.
7. Who were you most nervous to have read your first book?
MD: He hasn’t read it yet. So, I can’t answer that question just yet. BUT it’s always nerve-racking to show your words to your family.
8. What was the most surprising reaction you received after showing your work to the ones closest to you, good or bad?
SD: My uncle called my mother to tell her how funny the first book was. He said I must have a terrific sense of humor. The only problem is, the book wasn’t supposed to be funny…
9. Do you have a writing outfit? Do you get dressed every day when you’re working on a novel, or are you the ratty bathrobe, holey boxers type?

MD: I’m definitely a jeans and T-shirts kind of guy. Casual, yet proper. Nothing feels as good as a nicely worn, old pair of jeans.
10. Your perfect location to work, write, and play...the beach? Or the park?
SD: The beach. I recently went to a destination wedding in St. Croix and I spent the majority of my time sitting on the beach with my HUGE laptop, writing. It was the best week of my life.
11. What was it like writing from the perspective of a teenage girl?
MD: I love it. I’ve only done it a little bit, in the Ember series. BUT I’m actually working on an all new series from the perspective of a teenage girl. Honestly, I think boys and girls are fundamentally made up of all the same ingredients. Fear, love, acceptance and the joy of discovering something new. We just process those ideas a little differently, that’s all.
12. What’s your favorite character emotion to write about in your stories?
SD: Hmmmm. Hard one. Oddly I’m going to say anger. I think about every time the parking attendants ticket my car at 7:01 (it has to be moved at 7:00am for street cleaning), just as I am running outside in my pajamas to move it, and I put all of that frustration at the parking people into my characters.
13. How have you found the transition from writing songs to writing out whole novels? Did any of your books start as songs, but then you realized that the story needed to be told in depth?
MD: They’re quite different. There is a similarity in the layout and structure building though. My song writing is usually based around the song title or the groove or hook of the song AND I’ve found that my stories come to me the same way. Either a title sets me in the direction of the story I am writing or the main plot twist or hook decides the path I choose. Great question!
14. Any favorite bands? Songs? Music inspiration?
SD: Definitely the Foo Fighters; I even traveled across the pond last fall just to see them play at the Reading Festival! They played a three-hour set and I was in heaven. I’ve also been known to rap Biggie Smalls in some of my finer moments. In general, though, I listen to a lot of different music for inspiration when I write. I have playlists for books, scenes, characters, you name it.
15. What are the worst song lyrics you’ve ever written?
MD: Ha. Probably something to do with “big butts.” Just kidding.
SD: Those other brothers can’t deny…
16. Any literary crushes? Favorite authors or books?
SD: I don’t think I have any literary crushes right now- that special place in my heart reserved for character crushes is all Agent Derrick Morgan from Criminal Minds. Favorite authors, hmm, there are a lot. Stephen King, Dean Koontz, and Mary Higgins Clark are my old standbys. I read just about any new book they put out, regardless of whether it sounds good.
17. What is your biggest quirk?
MD: I’m a bit of a gadget whore. I’m always chasing after the newest electronics. I think it has something to do with all the pretty lights! I’m also addicted to eyedrops. The stronger the better. Not too weird, I hope.
SD: Me too! My best friend and I always crack up about the ridiculous number of chargers we have to pack every time we take a trip. It’s a far cry from when we backpacked around Europe, carrying around paperbacks and –gasp!- sans cell phones. As for the eyedrops… yeeeah, totally normal…
18. What’s the nicest thing you’ve ever done for a complete stranger?
SD: Wow, really making me dig deep for this one. I guess the nicest thing I’ve ever done for a complete stranger is pay for difference when she didn’t have enough money for the bill at Target.
19. If you had a helicopter, what would you name it?
MD: Easy! “THE REAPER!” Why? Because when someone says they’re scared to fly in my chopper I can jump up and scream... “DON’T FEAR THE REAPER!” That would rock! No? Okay then, how about “Hank.” Yah, I like Hank. Come fly the friendly skies with me and Hank. Word.
SD: Best. Answer. Ever. Definitely stick with the first one- more cowbell, anyone?
20. If I offered to fly you anywhere in my helicopter, where would you like to go the most?
SD: Can you take a helicopter from here to Switzerland? My favorite place in the world is Interlaken, Switzerland. You can run off the top of an Alp with a parachute and spend 10 minutes just floating down. You can also be pushed off of one in a big rubber ball- it’s called Zorbing- but I drew the line at that.
Sophie, I just wanted to take a second to thank you for sharing your thoughts with me and our readers. This interview was a blast! You’ve been fantastic to get to know. I see great and epic things ahead for you. I’m sure your fans think the same. Let’s do this again! Write on! Rock on!
~ M
Thanks Madison! And thank you for taking the time to answer my questions; we’ll definitely have to do it again. I wish you continued success with your books and music!
I’d also like to give a shout out to Derinda Love over at YATR- she made it possible to get this out to our readers on all of these amazing blogs, and she donated the gorgeous charms bracelets with our book covers (made by Cassie Chavez over at Cassie’s Crafty Creations!)
Now let’s give away some prizes!

Beast Anew by Tiffani Clark Kemp

After falling in LOVE with the first bookie in the series I knew I had to read the second book there were no if, ands, or buts about it. Just like the first bookie Beast Anew is action packed and it was an emotional read for me as for those of you who have read Beast Within know what happened in the ending. Luna that girl is so strong I would totally be a damn wreck, and she has sass when there's a situation that requires it, "Uncaring?.... I lost my best friend and my love. You think I'm being uncaring? I want this for them! I want this to happen. This is going to happen because we can rally and because we are strong. Do you understand? Nothing is going to keep us down. Filming will resume tomorrow morning. Make sure everyone is here." Dang woman is on a mission. Michael this time around wanted to punch him in the face UGH he p***ed me off so many times, especially when a certain situation arises! I felt well I'm not sure how to describe my feeling while Gabe and Luna weren't together but I was most happy when they were, I was jumping for joy yelling at the book "YOU GO GIRL!" Yeah total dork I know but hey I can't help it. Luna I'm serious that girl can put a smile on your face in ANY situation, "There's only one trick I want to see right now and it's 'how to make your d*** disappear'. I can show you, if you want." Gabe there's just something about him that when he walks into a room he like practically DEMANDS the attention well okay not demands, but he sure knows how to take it over, especially when he says "patience little one." Yeah out of the whole book fave line right there. Well okay there was another line I loved "you bring out the animal in me" sounds kinky right? I thought so too! Well if there is another bookie in the series GREAT but if not I think the ending was good!

Love's Second Chance by L.P. Dover

First off let me just say there are some 'slam bam thank you ma'am' moments in this bookie that are HOT, so with that being said please make sure you're 18 and older when you read this. Now on to the important stuff in this book like Galen LOVED that boy right off, he's so sweet "I just wish you would have told me. There probably wasn't anything I could have done, but it would have been nice to know." I paused to let that sink in and then I asked, "So Jenna's playing matchmaker again?" He's romantic, well he knows just what to say to make your heart go pitter patter, "And I've missed you. I've thought about you everyday since you left." Now Korinne that girl she made me laugh she made me cry almost made me wet myself with some of the things that came out of her mouth, "How could I forget," I quipped sarcastically. "I do have a question though. Was she always a rude a** b****, or was that just me she was acting that way to? I swear I could sense some rivalry there, but I chose to ignore it for the sake of Carson." This book isn't all flowers, and unicorns there is some heart stopping moments when I wanted to kill Leslie because I was thinking 'WHAT WERE YOU THINKING!!' There were also times I wanted to skip a few pages just to see what was gonna happen (Come on everyone does it or wants to do it at some point with a book right?) So to sum up this book in four words would be, emotional, heart wrenching, lovable!

BLOG TOUR REVIEW: The Reborn: The Book of Dain by Casse Narome

When I first saw the cover I knew I had to read this book, (yes I'm a sucker for a hot guy) LOL. Then I read the excerpt and really knew I had to read the book, but I'm not sure where to start on this review. Um... a lot to take in and get used to (no it's not a bad thing) The thing that kept me interested was Dain and his typical teenage boyness, "The new girl had lush everything - hair, lips, and curves." He's determination, the possessiveness he has (again typical teenage boyness) "Don't do that again, Tara. Don't flaunt another guy under my nose. I'm serious." Loved it! He's cocky (totally hot right?) "But then I wouldn't be touching you and I like touching you." I smiled. "A lot actually. I plan on doing more of it, in fact. The touching you I mean... everywhere." Dain isn't the only one whose an emotion wreck in the book so isn't Bonnie but DANG does that girl have a temper and lord does she speak her mind, "Then she is stupid and weak! Nothing Dylan or you could do would make me run and cower. I'm stronger than that. If she wasn't then too bad for her. I'm here and Dylan did the same thing to me... yet I'm still here." The ending, well this one I really hated I just didn't like how it ended, I mean the writing was great but COME ON! I'm hoping there is another book coming out.

COVER REVEAL/EXCERPT: Love's Second Chance by L.P. Dover

BLURB:
Korinne Anders had it all. She had the perfect job, the perfect house, and the perfect husband. When tragedy strikes, her world takes a devastating turn. Six months after losing her husband to a car accident, Korinne vows it to herself never to love again. If she doesn’t allow another man in her heart, then there’s no reason for her to feel the pain of loss. This plan seems to work, but is put to the test when Korinne’s best friend can’t stand to see her suffering any longer.
Korinne’s long-time friend, Jenna Perry, has an idea and it involves helping her friend find the spark of life in her soul no matter what it takes. Korinne didn’t know that Jenna’s plan meant bringing back a past love, a second chance with the man that Korinne had to leave in college, but always kept a place for in her heart.
When Galen Matthews learns of Korinne’s loss and that she’s finally moved back home, he wants nothing more than to be there for her. The love he felt for Korinne years ago has never left him, and now he’s given a second chance to not only mend her heart of her loss, but to also continue the love they shared in the past. Will his love and determination make her strong enough to give fate a second chance, or will her fear of losing another love make her run away?
What will Korinne do when she’s faced with a love so powerful that no matter what she does there’s nowhere to run from it?

EXCERPT:
With each determined step, I made my way over to the man that was beginning to steal my heart … again. Fear and desire coincided within me, but I couldn’t stop. I knew I shouldn’t let him in, but I couldn’t deny the way my heart was beating for this man. It was as if all of my desires, all of the pent up emotions and feelings in my body had me desperate for this man’s touch, Galen’s touch. The man I fell in love with years ago. His eyes grew wider the closer I got, but I knew I wasn’t going to back down. I needed to feel him in every way possible, and I needed it then. In one swift move I crushed my lips to his and wrapped my arms around his neck, holding him tight. His arms engulfed me, protecting me in his embrace, but also unsure of what to do.
“What are you doing?” he groaned, breaking away from the kiss. “I thought you wanted to take things slow.”
A fire so hot burned behind those pale blue eyes of his, and I knew taking things slow wasn’t going to happen. “I don’t think I can,” I breathed against his lips.
“Please don’t say that. I don’t think I can control myself if you let me in. I’ve wanted you from the moment I saw you, and it’s already hard enough to keep my distance.”
“I don’t want you to keep your distance.” I sighed. “I need you, Galen, and I need you now.” Those words were all it took for the fire to consume him, to consume us both.

BLOG TOUR REVIEW/GIVEAWAY: Beautiful Freaks by Katie M. John

I really enjoyed this book! It broke my heart in some places, but I enjoyed all the stories of the different characters and where they came from and how they came to Eve and her establishment, (or how Eve came to them.) Although it was Kaspian and his journey that I enjoyed the most. It was nice to see he had a sense of humor, I thought that he was a stiffler for awhile there:
"First cigarette, Kaspian? It gets better with practice, I find that the case with most things."
"God it's awful!" Kaspian said through laughter.
"So you are capable of laughing then? I was beginning to think maybe you couldn't, like you had an affliction or something."
Eve can be scary as shit sometimes, I mean I was just starting to like her after reading about her own story then I found out some deep secrets she had. "I have a heart Kaspian; it's a soul that I lack. And in my heart, I hold you. My heart is a fortress made of pride. No bullet can penetrate it, no blad kill it. It is here that I hold you. Safe." I can't wait to read more of this author's work I truly enjoyed it!

BLOG TOUR REVIEW/GIVEAWAY: Falling to Pieces by Amber Garza

Let me just say Asher I LOVED LOVED LOVED right off I mean who wouldn't when we're first introduced to him, "He was shirtless, a pair of blue gym shorts riding low on his hips. Sweat covered his chest, glistening over his taut muscles." Yeppers love at first read people! Ivy seriously needed good people around her and Asher was one but the best one was truly Billie her roommate and I guess you could say best  friend, "Ivy Marie Johnson, I'm taking you to this party even if I have to frag you there in your sweats." See isn't that a good friend, I'd say so. Asher has playfulness to him, truly love that in a man, "Maybe if you weren't so damn sexy you wouldn't have this problem." He's also honest (the one thing they're relationship REALLY needs), "There's nothing on you I haven't checked out Ivy. Your body has been the subject of all my late night fantasies since freshman year, if you know what I mean." I know what you mean (winks) Anyway authors need to start telling me how much emotional things are in their bookies because honestly there were some parts of this book I couldn't handle (not in a bad way I was just crying like a baby.) I loved this book and I hope Amber writes more like this.

BEASTLY BLOG TOUR REVIEW/GUEST POST: Beast Within by Tyffani Clark Kent

It took me until chapter two to get into this book, but when I did I never wanted to let go! I seriously fell in love with Gabe and Luna, and how their first time talking was interesting, entertaining, and I loved it:
"Do you think it would be okay if..." She motioned to the bathroom.
He shrugged when he wanted to laugh. "Why not? It's just a toilet..."
Luna and her thoughts on some things got me laughing and panting at the same time, "Holy Mary mother of Jesus, she almost crossed herself. Each of his eight abdominal muscles was perfectly etched across his stomach. She couldn't look away. She didn't want to. How embarrassing.
                                                    "I worked hard for those."
I seriously couldn't help but laugh! The banter between the two of those two kill me as well,
"I will give him a ride too. He looks like he's ready to s*** himself."
"Well, that's what happens when you're such an a**hole."
There better be another book coming, there was to many unanswered questions in the end!

GUEST POST:

Where do your ideas come from?
My ideas come from anywhere and everywhere. I know that's the typical author answer, so I thought I'd tell how I got a few of the ideas I've written into novels.
The first and most obvious would be BEAST WITHIN, of course. I woke up one morning from a dream staring Chris Hemsworth and felt I really needed to write it down so I wouldn't forget it. I started writing the party scene in the second and subsequent chapters. Not to give anything away, but picture this: Thor is standing on a balcony clad in a well tailored suit. His blonde hair hangs around his shoulders, a light shines down on the top of his head haloing him in golden light. And he's mad. At you. He's scowling at you and you are so attracted and frightened you don't know whether to run or wait for him to catch you. Waking up from that dream was a bit disappointing, but the possibility of lingering in that world was enticing. Why was he angry? What did I do to make him so? And most importantly, what happened before that to cause him to look so betrayed? That's where the party scene came from, and from there Gabriel Slade was born.
Another idea I'd like to share is from my debut novel, SCORNED. The way I came up with that idea is so different. This is literally what happened. I woke up one morning and thought, "I really want to write something new, something different, because I am sooo bored and I haven't written anything new in a few years." (I went through a bit of a dry spell.) So, I sat down at the breakfast table with my laptop, I didn't have a desk then, and I started writing, "As I sat at the breakfast nook table staring out the window I thought, 'I wish it was snowing'." That was the first line. From there, I just wrote what I was doing and thinking and feeling until I had a good plot line going. The vampires in the story came from my fear of open windows at night. (Don't laugh…yeah, okay. Go ahead and laugh.) Eddy, the horrible floral shop owner came from problems I was having at work. Pierce, the sexy boyfriend came from my fiance, and the break up at the end was me dealing with a break up that we suffered a few years ago. There's a lot of me in that story. It's a little heavy for me, but a good story came of it.
One more example, is a story that I've been working on for a long long time that I hope to have available sometime next year. It's called SHEKINAH and I got the idea from some people joking about a guy who was in a group photo. He had something shiny on his shirt and the flash caught it. They said it looked like the Shekinah Glory was exploding from him.
I literally get my ideas from everywhere. These are just a few examples, but as long as I'm here there's no stopping me. Promise. *wink*

QUOTE:
"You can fight all you want, Luna, but it's always going to come down to this: You love me and I love you. We cannot be apart or it will kill us both..." -Gabriel Slade

BLURB:
Gabriel Slade has returned to take his rightful place as Captain of The General's army. Luna stayed behind to nurse a broken heart and a precious secret that could mean the end of all mankind.

Human's possessed by the spirits of the dead are searching the earth for a child that will have the power to bring the apocolypse upon the world. Gabriel must find this child if he hopes to keep order and peace with the humans, but his heart keeps getting in the way. He must save the world from darkness, while making the one decision that could cost him everything.

Gabe once thought that roaming the earth as a hideous, angry beast was his curse. Now, without the love of his life he feels more helpless than before.

EXCERPT:
There wasn't time for that though. His chest throbbed like there was a beast within him trying to escape and he knew all about how that felt. The men's expectant faces, the urging, this was his new purpose.
"With me," he ordered, his gruff voice giving no room to argue.
They were in the next room a split second later. It took another second to assess the situation. There was a woman in her underclothes with her back pressed the wall. She screamed again when they appeared. He could feel the fear rolling off her. A man stood between her and the door.
"I don't need the Host of Heaven." The man spoke and his voice was high and low at the same time, English and Austrian.
"Who has possessed you?" Gabe demanded. At the word 'possessed' the woman looked at him, her eyes wide.
"Who or what I am is of no concern to you. What you should ask is why I am here." It turned to look at him. It's neck swivelled in a non-human way and it's eyes were black as the darkest night.
"Why are you here? What is your name?" Gabe let all of his power and authority drip into his voice. It dropped an octave and vibrated through the room. The woman blinked at him.
The possessed man turn it's body to face the direction it was looking. "We will be the ruination of this world until we have the child. When they child is in our possession we will feed from it until we can bring forth the pestulance upon this world. We will rule mankind until the darkening of the sun."
Gabe nodded. "Michael, get the woman."
            "Yes, sir."
"Who is this child?" he asked, but the creature within the man's body only cackled. "What do you need it for? Why is it so special?" He motioned the other host to join Michael in protecting the woman. They appeared around her, forming a hedge of protection.
            "We want it's blood."
The creature lunged at Gabe, sending him flying backward into the wall with it's force and speed. Gabe pushed it away and called his swords to manifest.
"You cannot save the child," it taunted. "You will not save the child. We will reign victorious."
            "Who sent you?" Gabe growled.
"The high one." The creature lunged at him again.
"Gabriel, don't!" Michael shouted just before Gabe skewered it.
At the last moment he let his swords go and they dissipated into thin air. Gabe was tackled again. Sharp nails dug into the flesh of his back as it latched onto him. Razor sharp teeth sank into his neck. Gabe roared with anger and pain. He tried to push the creature away, but it had a tight hold on him. Its claws dug deeper into his back.
Gabe called forth the Light and sent it into the creature with one short burst. It screeched. It's claws ripped the flesh and fabric from Gabe's back as it sailed across the room and against the far wall. Gabe pushed himself up from where he'd fallen on his face.
Michael stood over the creature where it writhed and moaned on the floor.
"Are you going to finish it?" Gabe teetered on his feet and fell to the edge of the bed, woozy.
"It is still human, Gabriel." Michael looked at him with concern. "Are you alright?"
"I don't know." Gabe touched his neck. His fingers came a away smeared with blood and a thick black, oily substance. "Damn."
"You've been poisoned," Michael said unnecessarily.
Gabe groaned. Or was it a growl? He couldn't tell. His vision darkened and his hearing blinked in and out.
            "Can..urn it off?"
Urn it off? Gabe tried to think, but he couldn't seem to get the right thoughts. The poison burned through his system and his body went rigid.
"What is this? What's going on here?"
Was that the manager? Something thumped. Oh, it was his body hitting the floor. His head slumped against the worn carpet. He tried to blink the blackness out of his eyes.
"Burn it off!" Michael was in his face screaming.
Excerpt Two:
Gabriel woke with a throbbing pain through his whole body. He wanted to scream and cry and die all at the same time. When he opened his eyes, the light burned them.
He was in a bed in a room that looked like an old inn. It smelled of smoke and sweat and liquor. He gagged.
"You're awake." Michael's voice was most welcome. "Good. I was worried there for a minute. Don't try to get up," he said when Gabe started to push himself up. "You're still weak."
            "Where are we?"
"Not sure. I had to get you somewhere away from those creatures. They'll find us though. They want you dead." He chuckled. "What did you do to them?"
"I'm not sure," Gabriel answered honestly. He sat up despite his friend's protests. "How long have we been here?"
            "Days. Three."
Gabriel sighed. "We need to get back into the fight." His chest tightened as he said the words and he grunted.
            "What is it?"
"We're supposed to be here," he answered. "I guess I'll rest a bit more."
As he laid back there was a knock on the door. Michael got up to answer it.
"Hello, Deli." He ushered a woman into the room. She was beautiful, with dark hair and and soft brown eyes. When she smiled, it was almost angelic.
She was heavily with child. Gabe was sure she was close to her birthing time.
"Hello, Michael. Ah, your friend is awake." Deli set a tray down on the table by the bed. "I'm Deli. I've been taking care of you the last few days." She smiled at him. "How are you feeling?"
Gabriel swallowed around the lump in his throat. "I am feeling much better. Thank you for helping Michael. He really is quite useless."
            Deli giggled.
"Deli." Gabriel said her name out loud. "Is that short for Delilah by any chance?"
"Yes, it is. Why do you ask?"
Gabe only smiled at her. "It's a lovely name."
"Thank you. I was named after my mother. She died giving birth."
He frowned. "I am sorry to hear that."
"I'll leave you to eat." She smiled, and it was somewhat suggestive. "I hope you enjoy it."
"If you made it I am sure I will."
Deli giggled. "No, of course not. But the cook is wonderful. Eat up. Get your strength back." She cast him one more longing glance before she left.
"What's wrong?" Michael asked. "Is she tempting to you?"
Gabe frowned, eyeing his friend with disdane. "No," he groused. "I'm going to have to kill her and her baby."

ABOUT C.M:
C.M. Stunich was raised under a cover of fog in the area known simply as Eureka, CA. A mysterious place, this strange, arboreal land nursed Caitlin's (yes, that's her name!) desire to write strange fiction novels about wicked monsters, magical trains, and Nemean Lions (Google it!). She currently enjoys drag queens, having too many cats, and tribal bellydance.
Always a fan of the indie scene and 'sticking it to the man,' Ms. Stunich decided to take the road less traveled and forgo the traditional publishing route. You can be assured though that she received several rejections as to ensure her proper place in the world of writers before taking up a friend's offer to start a publishing company. Sarian Royal was born, and Ms. Stunich's books slowly transformed from mere baking chocolate to full blown tortes with hand sculpted fondant flowers.
C.M. is a writer obsessed with delivering the very best and scours her mind on a regular basis to select the most unusual stories for the outside world.
